PLAYERS: Mostly white males. One phone setup man and one accomplice.
VICTIMS:
Usually multiple victims involved. One victim, frequently an
employee of a large company, will unknowingly locate other victims for the
suspects.
CON: Suspect places a call to a receiving or shipping department of a
large company. Claiming that he has done business with them in the past, he
tells of an opportunity for interested persons to purchase a large quantity of
televisions, video reorders, microwave ovens, or other such merchandise, at a
very low price. Since the company who is offering this bargain only deals in
volume sales, the victim is encouraged to locate as many buyers as possible. A
list of the brands is given to the mark along with the exact "unbelievably low
price" of each item available.
STING: After the mark has collected the money from his fellow employees
he is instructed to rent a truck. He is also told to meet the company salesman
at the loading dock of a reputable firm, such as Sears, to pick up the
merchandise.
After the mark turns over the money collected, the suspect instructs him to back
his truck up to the loading dock. The suspect then enters the store, supposedly
to open the door, and makes a quick exit out of another door to a waiting
vehicle.
NOTE:
The money taken in this type
of scam can be astounding.
It can also result in injuries to the employee who collected the money from his
fellow employees for this "chance of a lifetime opportunity"
